Byndelle Hybrida is my master thesis project. It was developed as an artistic research project ands design as a whole, from the creation of the logo, the ornaments and the editorial design. The project can be found here: http://azusnz.com/hybrida/​​​​​​​

Byndelle Hybrida focuses on the search of a hybrid created out of the combination of metals and mycelium. The project is inspired by the papers of Gabriela Aceves Sepúlveda and Donna Haraway, both involving concepts of nature, technique and cyborgs. These concepts are explored deeply within the idea of woman being nature and men technique and moving forward into a new sexless era where we have all evolved to be hybrids. We are technological subjects, we are natural in our own shape, we are politic entities, we are cyborgs.

Mycelium is used as a reference to our own nature, as humans we share more characteristics with the fungi kingdom than with any other. Through the use of the process of mycoremediation (in this case the digestion of heavy metals by mycelium), explorations about nature consuming and then merging with technique are done, in order to create hybrids.

The outcome of Byndelle Hybrida is an exploration of geometrical shapes representing men and women, with a subtle and organic aesthetic, given by mycelium, that reminds us what was once the idea of women; within the structures of a political and manly world that shows us how we started but takes us to where we are, in a now hybrid continuum.

The project's goal was a hybrid which was inquired in the name, byndelle on the other hand is bundle in old english, a reference to mycelium's shape when it grows underneath the soil. 

The typography used for the logo was Brioso Pro light italic and the color palette is the following:

The ornaments used in the book where inspired by mycelium's hyphae [bundle] growth. 

The images were translated into vectors in order to obtain later on a geometrical abstraction of such shapes since the whole project's concept was built out of nature, technique and geometry. 

For the cover of the book and myriad applications both shapes, the organic and the geometrical one were juxtapose one against the order in different shades and opacities. 

The size of the spread sheet was 40cm and a whole page's size was 20cm. The design from the spread sheet was built according to the Golden Ratio Grid which led to this arrangement:

The fonts used were Gotham Light for the headers and Minion Pro for the paragraphs, the colors were chose following the logo's palette with the inclusion of a darker grey [#4C4C4E].
